Huge Haight Home for a Hair Over a Mil?

August 3, 2009

A gorgeous Haight Ashbury Victorian continues to stand out in my mind from last week’s Broker Tour.  Why?  Quite simply, it’s the price tag.

1424 Page Street

1424 Page Street

1424 Page Street hit the market on July 24th for $1,089,000.  “So what”, you might say.  Well, this single family home boasts 4 bedrooms, 3 full baths, an in-law suite downstairs, and close to 2,500 square feet of living space.  The home is situated on a tree-lined portion of Page.  And the price?  Well let’s just say that there have been a few condos in the ‘hood that recently sold with similar price tags.

True, 1424 Page needs a little work, but overall, what a house and what potential!  Some of the systems have been upgraded and the pest report only showed $1,200 (per the listing).  Not bad… not bad at all.  The place even has air conditioning.  We wish the home were still available but it’s been snatched up by someone with an eye for special homes, good locations, and excellent values.  We’ll keep tabs on the final selling price.  Last time it sold was in 1997 for a reported $385,000.  We wouldn’t be surprised if it fetched over asking here in ’09.

  1. I did see this house and agree fully. $1.3 would have been a more appropriate starting price and it probably would have still gone quick!

  2. I can’t wait to see what it sold for! If the buyer has some cash set aside for improvements, it sounds like a smart move to me.

  3. Just closed for $1.137m Probably the best deal of the year.

  4. Yes, nice freakin’ buy! Of course I haven’t seen the inspection report, but I’m still assuming it was a good deal.
